Additional Needs

We have extensive experience working with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). We believe every young person should have the opportunity to experience high-quality outdoor learning and adventure, whatever their individual needs or abilities.

Adaptive Learning

Every programme is carefully tailored to the requirements of the individuals within your group. We work closely with group leaders before arrival to understand any additional needs and discuss suitable activities, adaptations and support. We can adapt activities, equipment and the pace of a programme to help everyone take part, challenge themselves and experience a real sense of achievement.

We have a wealth of experience working with a wide range of groups, including children and young people with a range of additional needs including those with limb differences, moderate learning difficulties, visual impairments and autism spectrum conditions. We understand that every individual is different, so we take a flexible approach rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all programme.

We also regularly provide outdoor learning programmes for children and young people who have experienced the care system, those living with cancer, young carers as well as courses for special schools that work with children with a broad spectrum of conditions.

Accommodation and facilities

We have accommodation available to meet a range of needs, including accessible bedrooms with an adjacent wet-room. We also have an all-terrain wheelchair and can adapt many of our activities to support young people with limited mobility.

A supportive environment

For us, inclusion is about more than adapting activities. It is about creating a welcoming, supportive and nurturing environment where young people feel safe, valued and encouraged to discover what they can achieve.

Our aim is for every young person to leave Longtown with a sense of pride, confidence and achievement — having experienced outdoor learning and adventure in a way that works for them.
