Who We Are

Longtown Outdoor Learning is a charity with a clear mission: to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to strengthen their resilience, build confidence, and grow through transformative experiences in the outdoors. We believe that the outdoors is a powerful tool for developing life skills and fostering a love of nature.

Our History

Since opening our doors in 1964, Longtown Outdoor Education Centre has been a cornerstone of outdoor learning and adventure for generations of children and young people from Northamptonshire. Sixty years on, we remain committed to providing high-quality outdoor experiences to schools across Northamptonshire, while also building lasting partnerships with schools, charities, youth groups, and uniformed organisations throughout the West Midlands, South West England, and South Wales.

Owned by The Wilson Foundation and operated by Longtown Outdoor Learning Trust, we continue to provide transformative educational experiences for young people.

Our Approach

We pride ourselves on collaboration, working closely with our guests to create memorable and impactful experiences. Our team is dedicated to making outdoor learning as accessible and affordable as possible, and we are committed to achieving the best outcomes for each individual.

We offer a wide range of outdoor learning and adventure activities that inspire resilience and personal growth, while also providing expert advice and training for educators to plan and execute safe, educational, and enjoyable outdoor visits.

Whether it’s through outdoor adventure or professional development, our goal is to empower young people and educators to embrace the outdoors, creating experiences that last a lifetime.

Our Bursaries

As a charity it is our mission to make school residentials affordable for all. The Wilson Foundation offers bursaries to children who live in Northamptonshire who are attending a school residential and the Longtown Outdoor Learning Trust offers bursaries to children who live outside of Northamptonshire who are attending a school residential. All children who receive free school meals qualify for these bursaries automatically and will receive a 30% reduction in the cost of the course.  There is also a discretionary bursary for families that the school has identified as experiencing financial difficulties. Find out more on our school residential page here.
