Apprentice Outdoor Activity Instructor

Salary scale: £8,092

Do you love the outdoors? Here is an opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications and to develop professional skills as an Outdoor Instructor, whilst earning a wage. This is a full time post. The post will either be offered as a 12-month contract to new apprentices or a 6-month contract to existing apprentices who need a new employer with whom to complete their apprenticeship.

Longtown Outdoor Learning Trust is looking for an enthusiastic apprentice instructor to join our young, dynamic team. The Trust's 70-bed residential centre is situated in the beautiful Herefordshire village of Longtown on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It has excellent facilities including a High Ropes course, a Climbing tower and kayak / SUP training pool set in 16 acres of private grounds and is located between the eastern edge of the Black Mountains and the River Monnow. Despite Covid-19 restrictions on our residential programmes we continue to offer day and evening programmes to local schools and are currently working with 6 different schools on a regular basis. More information about our current activities can be found on our Facebook page.

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Apprentice to assist with the delivery of high quality social and personal development. Applicants must have some personal experience of Outdoor and Adventurous activities and be keen to develop personal skills and leadership skills in a range of outdoor activities.

Good organisation, communication and ICT skills are expected and the successful candidate will need to demonstrate their initiative and resourcefulness. Apprentices will work towards a Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor apprenticeship and a range of relevant Outdoor skills and leadership awards. The apprenticeship is offered in partnership with Channel Training Limited.

Accommodation will be offered with this post. If you are successful and live in the local area you can opt to stay at home if you prefer but you will need to be able to transport yourself to and from the centre each day.

Part Time Cook

Salary scale: £18,057 - £19,266 (pro rata)

Contract: 0.5 FTE, 975 Annualised hours

Holidays: 13 days paid holiday and bank holidays

Single live-in accommodation available for suitable candidate.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with us at our established and well-regarded Outdoor Learning Centre in a fun, friendly and busy environment as a key member of our catering team. Feeding young adventurers after their big day out in the mountains, on rivers or underground, the Cook will ensure that students and staff are served two well-balanced wholesome meals each day during their stay. An important part of the role is ensuring that the storage, preparation and serving of all food is well monitored, maintained and controlled whilst maintaining the cleanliness of our 5 star hygiene rated commercial kitchen. The usual hours of work will be 20 hours a week, Monday - Thursday 2.30pm - 7.30pm. Breakfast cover, weekend work and holiday cover may occasionally be required.
